Salt comes under assault as FDA considers first sodium rules

WASHINGTON (Medill News Service) -- For 25 years, the federal government left salt alone. It is "generally recognized as safe," or of "GRAS status," said the FDA, which means salt isn't subject to any agency regulation, review or approval. That might be on the verge of change.
